Can I connect to a public IP address or published service from another VM in the same environment?

Generally speaking, no. The following table describes how connections within an environment work:

Notes

  • VMs from a different environment (or any other machine on the public Internet) can connect to a public IP or published service. The above limitations only apply to VMs in the same environment.
  • If you use a firewall appliance, it’s connected via NAT to the local IP address of the adapter to which it is attached. Only the local IP address is visible from within the VM.
