How does Skytap Cloud generate the VM DNS name?

When you attach a public IP with DNS to a VM, Skytap Cloud automatically generates a fully-qualified domain name for the VM using the following pattern:

uniquename.accountsubdomain.skytapdns.com

Example:

app1.customername.skytapdns.com

The domain name is broken down into three parts:

uniquename

Skytap Cloud generates a unique name based on FQDN requirements. You can manually edit this unique name, if necessary.

accountsubdomain

The account subdomain portion is defined in your Skytap Cloud customer account settings. Your account has one, unique account subdomain. Administrators can view the account subdomain on the Managing Public IP Addresses page.

The account subdomain cannot be edited from the Skytap Cloud web interface or REST API. To edit the account subdomain, the primary administrator for your account must contact support@skytap.com.

skytapdns.com

This is the top-level domain; it cannot be customized.
