Suspend isn’t supported for Power VMs or x86 VMs with more than 256 GB of RAM

Power A particular type of CPU that supports IBM i, AIX, and Linux in Skytap Cloud. VMs and x86 VMs with more than 256 GB of RAM can’t be suspended. If your environment contains both Power and x86 VMs, only x86 VMs with 256 GM or RAM or less will suspend.

The following Skytap features are affected by this:

  • Suspend an environment – The suspended power state is available only for x86 VMs. Power VMs will continue to run.
  • Automatically suspend an environment – The automatic suspend power option affects only x86 The most common type of CPU for Windows and Linux VMs in Skytap Cloud. VMs with 256 GB of RAM or less. Power VMs and x86 VMs with more than 256 GB or RAM will continue to run.
  • Save an environment as a template – If an environment contains Power VMs, you must shut down or power off those VMs before you can save the environment as a template.
  • Copy an environment – If your environment contains Power VMs, you must shut down or power off those VMs before you can copy the environment.
  • Automate actions with schedules – The Suspend action is not available for Power VMs. If you create a schedule for an environment, the only supported power-state actions for Power VMs are Run, Shut Down, and Power off.
