Suspend isn’t supported for Power VMs or x86 VMs with more than 256 GB of RAM
Power A CPU architecture that supports IBM i, AIX, and Linux (on Power) in Skytap. VMs and x86 VMs with more than 256 GB of RAM can’t be suspended. If your environment contains both Power and x86 VMs, only x86 VMs with 256 GB of RAM or less will suspend.
The following Skytap features are affected by this:
- Suspend an environment – The suspended power state is available only for x86 VMs. Power VMs will continue to run.
- Automatically suspend an environment – The automatic suspend power option affects only x86 The most common CPU architecture. x86 CPUs support Windows and Linux VMs in Skytap. VMs with 256 GB of RAM or less. Power VMs and x86 VMs with more than 256 GB of RAM will continue to run.
- Save an environment as a template – If an environment contains Power VMs, you must either shut down or power off those VMs before you can save the environment as a template, or you can choose to copy the running VMs.
- Copy an environment – If your environment contains Power VMs, you must either shut down or power off those VMs before you can copy the environment, or you can choose to copy the running VMs.
-
Automate actions with schedules – The Suspend action isn’t available for Power VMs but you can include a Save action that saves running VMs. If you create a schedule for an environment, the only supported power-state actions for Power VMs are Run, Shut Down, and Power off. Although you can save running VMs, we recommend that you include an action to Suspend or Shut Down running machines before the Save action to help make sure the schedule creates a crash-consistent template.
If you choose to Save an environment as a template, Copy an environment, or use a Save action in a schedule. we strongly recommend that you minimize application and disk activity.
