Upgrading Precisely Assure MIMIX™ Software version 10.0.20.00 and newer on Skytap VMs

The Precisely Assure MIMIX™ Software package supports the following minimum IBM i OS release levels (note the Technology Refresh level as well):

IBM i 7.5 Base release
IBM i 7.4 TR 5
IBM i 7.3 TR 11

IBM i 7.2 and older levels aren’t supported.

Upgrading Precisely Assure MIMIX™ Software software (from version 10.0.20.00 or newer)

This article describes how to upgrade an existing operational Assure MIMIX™ Software installation in which one or more nodes of the installation resides on a Skytap VM and Assure MIMIX™ Software is enabled for the Skytap VM.

The upgrade procedure uses the UPGMMX command. You can upgrade all nodes (default and strongly recommended) or upgrade only the local node. Additionally, you can choose whether or not to start the Assure MIMIX™ Software managers and AUI.

To upgrade Assure MIMIX™ Software:

Type ENDMMX *IMMED and press Enter to stop Assure MIMIX™ Software on all nodes.
Type WRKOBJLCK <installlib> *LIB and press Enter to verify that only the PORTxxxxx job is running for each node.

You may have to wait for all jobs to end after ENDMMX *IMMED completes.
Sign out and sign in using a high-power profile (see Prerequisites) to a Skytap Assure MIMIX™ Software-enabled node.

If there are more than two nodes in the installation, you must sign in to a *MGT node.
If the Assure MIMIX™ Software installation library is present in your library list, type RMVLIBLE <mimixLib> and press Enter to remove it.
Type CHGCURLIB QGPL and press Enter to change the current library to QGPL.
Type <installLib>/UPGMMX and press Enter to begin the upgrade.

You can press F4 to change the default options.

During the upgrade process, UPGMMX will:
1. Transfer the most recent Installation package from the Skytap server.
2. Transfer the installation package to other nodes configured within the installation, (using MIMIX SYNCOBJ
3. Perform a pre-check on the local node and each remote node to verify that most preconditions for a successful upgrade are satisfied (if you specified NODES(*ALL)).
4. If any preconditions aren’t satisfied, Assure MIMIX™ Software is not upgraded and the UPGMMX command fails.
- If this happens, examine the messages for any preconditions that aren’t satisfied.
1. If all preconditions are satisfied, the upgrade starts with the remote nodes (if NODES(*ALL) was specified).
  Notes
  - Nodes that are already at the current Assure MIMIX™ Software version aren't upgraded.
  - If any upgrade fails, processing stops and no further nodes are upgraded.
2. After all the remote nodes are upgraded, then the local node is upgraded.
3. If you specified RESTART(*YES), the Assure MIMIX™ Software managers and the AUI server start.
