How does Skytap generate the VM DNS name?

When you attach a public IP address with DNS to a VM, Skytap automatically generates a fully-qualified domain name for the VM using the following pattern:

uniquename.accountsubdomain.skytapdns.com

Example:

app1.customername.skytapdns.com

The domain name is broken down into three parts:

uniquename

Skytap generates a unique name based on FQDN requirements. You can manually edit this unique name, if necessary.

accountsubdomain

If you haven’t yet defined your account subdomain, create it here.
Your account has one, unique account subdomain that can’t be changed. Administrators can view the account subdomain on the Managing Public IP Addresses page.

skytapdns.com

This is the top-level domain; it can’t be customized.
